Our student workshops are designed for grades 7 - 12. The goal of each workshop is to inform students about food insecurity and the importance of good food. Grade 5 & 6

Letโ€™s Learn About Food!

This interactive workshop introduces students in Grades 5 and 6 to the basic concept of food security, fun food facts, and talks about how food is connected to so much of our life, culture, and community. The main event of this workshop is our Food Jeopardy, engaging students in different topics of food.

This workshop is 45 minutes in length.

Grade 7 & 8

Nutrition By Addition & The Importance Of Good Food

This interactive workshop introduces students in Grade 7 and 8 to the idea of healthy eating based on the Canadian Food Guide, and the basic principles of Food Security. It also begins to explore the mental and physical impact of food insecurity and easy strategies individuals can use to alleviate food scarcity.

This workshop is 45 minutes in length.

Grade 9 & 10

What is Food Security and Why Should I Care?

This workshop is geared to engage students in the topic of food security and the impact of food insecurity on our health. The hands on activity asks students to prepare a meal plan using a select list of food items that illustrate a typical food bank hamper.

Grade 11 & 12

The True Cost of Food

This workshop identifies food insecurity, its root causes and impact, and identifies forms of alleviation. The hands on activity provides various life scenarios, where students will need to figure out a grocery budget for their person, and make adjustments because 'life happens'.
